AT&T to extend fibre rollout

US operator AT&T has announced plans to expand its fibre network across the US to up to 100 further cities and municipalities. The operator will be extending the footprint its triple play U-Verse TV, fixed internet and telephony service which it claims delivers speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Vodafone UK hits out at poor network quality rating

A report on the performance of UK mobile operators that named Vodafone as having the poorest overall network performance of the country’s four operators has drawn strong criticism from the firm. Network performance monitoring specialist RootMetrics published its UK mobile network performance review Thursday, ranking Vodafone in last place for network reliability, mobile internet performance and call and text performance.

US operator AT&T has reported a 149 per cent increase in net income in FY2013 to reach $18.2bn. The firm recorded net income of $7.3bn in 2012. Consolidated revenues reached $128.8bn for the year, an increase of 1.1 per cent year on year.

Apple ordered to pay $32.5m for unauthorised in-app purchases

Device maker Apple has agreed to pay $32.5m in refunds to consumers in order to settle a complaint made by the US Fair Trade Commission (FTC). The firm will refund parents who claim the App Store processed sales of in-app purchases made by children without gaining their consent.

US operator AT&T has launched an initiative that allows businesses to cover the transmission cost of content they provide to consumers. The Sponsored Data service will enable customers to view sponsored content and use apps over AT&T’s HSPA+ and LTE networks without that data usage coming out of their monthly wireless data plan.
