Malaysian operator Packet One Networks (P1) says it is entering into a WiMAX technology partnership with Chinese vendor ZTE. The partnership, which will be formalised next week, is reportedly part of P1’s efforts to accelerate expansion of its WiMAX network.
Chinese vendor ZTE has launched what it claims to be the industry’s smallest WiMAX 16e RRU (remote radio unit) product. Dubbed the R9110, ZTE says the RRU helps reduce the number of base stations by 50 per cent, enabling telecom operators to maximise their return on investment (ROI).
“We anticipate a boom in WiMAX take-up for fixed applications in emerging markets this year,” says Wei Yuan, senior director of global marketing at ZTE’s WiMAX solutions business.
