Mobile advertising going strong

Mobile advertising continues to be a winner, with ad impressions going up by 10 per cent in the month of June alone.

According to figures released by mobile advertising platform AdMob on Thursday, the total number of ad impressions on the AdMob network increased by 10 per cent over June to almost 4 billion ads worldwide.

Interestingly, the figures reveal that Nokia’s own offering and the well regarded Openwave platform are the top browsers in the AdMob network, with 34 per cent and 29 per cent market share respectively. While on a global basis, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Palm, and the Apple iPhone’s Safari all had less than 5 per cent market share each.

On the whole, traffic from smartphones continued to increase, with 25.6 per cent of worldwide ad requests on the AdMob network originating from smartphones in July, compared to 24.3 per cent in June. But the Nokia N95 managed to steam ahead of the Sony Ericsson K800i as the top web browsing device in the UK, with an 8.3 per cent market share.

AdMob also noticed increasing use of the mobile internet in Africa, with particularly strong growth in Nigeria and Egypt. The company said it has seen traffic in the African market increase 21 per cent since the start of the year. Nokia’s web browsers also dominate market share throughout Africa, with 50.6 per cent of the market, the company said.
