Telstra wraps up Pacnet acquisition

The Telstra/Pacnet acquisition story which broke towards the end of last year has now come to fruition, with the Australian telco today announcing the completed acquisition of the Cloud, managed services and data centre provider. As reported by Telecoms.com in December, the valuation of the deal came in at $697 million.

Pacnet virtualizes optical layer, adds bandwidth self-service

Pan-Asian operator Pacnet has announced its work with optical infrastructure vendor Infinera to bring network virtualization technologies into the optical layer, utilising software defined networking capabilities. The introduction of SDN into Layer 1 is intended to afford customers requiring high-capacity to access high bandwidth availability on a self-service basis.

Telstra $697m acquisition of Pacnet goes ahead

Australian telco giant Telsta has confirmed it is proceeding with the acquisition of trans-Pacific cable and data centre player Pacnet. As ever the $697 million deal is subject to regulatory approval, but assuming it goes through it will give Telstra a foothold in China, a bunch of data centres and services including SDN (software defined networking).

Telstra confirms discussions over Pacnet acquisition

Australia’s former state-owned telco, Telstra, has confirmed discussions are underway over a potential acquisition of data centre and undersea cable operator Pacnet. At this stage, the cost of any possible transaction has not been announced.
