Europe set to finally make its OTT regulation move

The European Commission (hereafter referred to as the ‘Gaggle of Red-tapers’) is reported to be in the process of introducing new regulations for OTTs which will level the playing field for telcos in Europe.

Sprint to offer Google Apps to enterprise customers

Sprint has announced that it will begin offering Google Apps for Business to enterprise customers in August. The US telco said it plans to provide the full array of Google Apps and emphasize a mobile-focused approach to using the cloud suite. It will also provide and offer online training and support free.

Telefonica ordered to reduce stake in TIM Brasil

Brazil’s antitrust regulator has ordered Spanish operator group Telefonica to relinquish part of its stake in TIM Brasil or seek a partner for its own Brazilian subsidiary Vivo.

Telecom Italia chief resigns

Italian operator Telecom Italia has announced that its chairman and CEO Franco Bernabè has resigned from his role. Bernabè tendered his resignation at a meeting of the operator’s Board of Directors, which will now be chaired by the vice president Aldo Minucci.

Telco founder Ted Rogers dies

Founder and ex-CEO of Canadian carrier Rogers Wireless, Edward Samuel “Ted” Rogers, died earlier this week aged 75. Rogers, who suffered from congestive heart failure, saw his health weaken over the past few years. AT&T 3Q beats expectations

US telco AT&T reported Monday that third quarter earnings increased 73.8 per cent year on year to $2.16bn (£1.15bn), beating analyst expectations. Gains on wireless revenues along with merger integration progress also helped operating revenues jump 51.8 per cent to $15.6bn during the period.
