The report begins by gauging the respondents’ sentiments towards the overall industry performance, their investment plans, and anticipated threats to profit and long-term business success. We then deep dive into key topics including 5G, BSS Modernisation, and AI to uncover more industry views and strategies.

Here are some of the key findings from the survey:

  • More than half of the industry views the overall business performance of telecoms so far in 2023 as positive.

  • Many in the industry are also excited about the opportunities that both emerging and more mature technologies will bring to telecoms in the coming year.

  • But respondents are divided when it comes to their views on AI investment versus AI hype.

  • On 5G, more than seven in ten of respondents agree that enterprise verticals are an essential priority for their business.

  • The biggest challenge identified by our audience in current billing systems is limited automation and self-service capabilities.

  • While most participants are enthusiastic about moving their customer and event data to the public cloud to reap the benefits of AI/ML related services, less than two in ten are already making the move and many still deliberate over a mixed bag of concerns.

  • Security/cybersecurity and data privacy breaches are on top of mind for our industry professionals when it comes to risks associated with AI.

  • Nonetheless, over four in five respondents are considering AI to some level, including around two in five industry professionals whose organisations are having conversations about pursuing AI.
