Telecoms.com Intelligence has once again conducted its Annual Industry Survey, inviting fellow telecoms professionals to look back on 2024 and ahead towards 2025 and beyond. In this report, we share with you the key findings of the survey as well as our analysis of them.

More specifically, this report examines key trends and challenges in the current telecom landscape.

Investigating telecom performance to-date, it also looks at what is on the horizon in the upcoming year, what investment areas are swaying telecom organisations versus what emerging technologies and services are considered overhyped, and what threats are likely to impact telecom businesses.

The survey report further deep dives into the key areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Edge Computing, and Next-Gen Wi-Fi to uncover more industry views and strategies.

Here are some of the key findings from the report:

  • More than half of respondents are pleased with the telecom industry’s business performance year-to-date, viewing it as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’

  • AI (excl. GenAI), Automation, and Machine Learning (ML) is the top priority investment area for telecoms organisations in 2025

  • Nearly a third of respondents have already started implementing and using AI solutions in some areas

  • Meanwhile, there is a dichotomy of views in the industry on whether AI will have a transformative or incremental impact on telecoms

  • Almost two thirds of respondents consider edge computing very important, if not critical, to existing telecom networks

  • However, nearly seven in ten respondents state their organisations to be still in an exploratory stage of edge computing

  • Top two key drivers to deploy Wi-Fi 7 are introducing new tech use cases and enhancing multi-user experiences

  • Despite the key drivers, half of respondents are uncertain about their organisational timelines for deploying Wi-Fi 7
