UK incumbent telco BT is understood to be the only interested party left in the running for ISP Pipex, after Carphone Warehouse reportedly dropped out of the bidding.

The UK broadband provider put itself up for sale last month. Pipex has 570,000 broadband customers.

Speculation on BT’s interest in the service provider has been floating around since last year when BT was rumoured to be considering a £350m offer for the company. At the time it was believed the incumbent was also interested in Pipex’s WiMAX business. The service provider one of the few UK ISPs that owns a licence to operate a WiMAX network.
