Telecom Italia's sale of Argentinian unit is in slow process

Telecom Argentina has appointed a new CEO in Stefano De Angelis. He replaces Franco Bertone, who has held the role since 2009, and will take on other responsibilities within the Telecom Italia Group, the firm said.

Telecom is the parent company of a leading telecommunications group in Argentina, where it offers, either itself or through its controlled subsidiaries local and long distance fixed-line telephony, cellular, data transmission and Internet services, among other services.

Additionally, through a controlled subsidiary, the group offers cellular services in Paraguay.

In August 2012, Italy’s Prysmian Group won a contract with Telecom Argentina to supply and install an optical network that will provide the passive infrastructure for the first part of its new fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network.

The contract will involve building a network which will serve 4,000 homes and which will have an initial take-up/connection rate of just under 40 per cent.
