Scandinavian telco Tele2 and global M2M platform provider Cubic Telecom have announced a joint collaborative agreement to provide machine-to-machine (M2M) and internet of things (IoT) solutions to companies in both the PC OEM and automotive industries.
The partnership will aim to facilitate faster deployment and enabling of IoT-based services through the use of Cubic Telecom’s cloud platform. Tele2 claims that the enhanced service delivery capabilities the agreement will bring will directly allow for end user organisations and enterprises to drive new revenue generating streams.
Companies such as HP, Lenovo and Sierra Wireless are alleged to already be utilising Cubic’s cloud platform, and connectivity, management and monetisation of M2M/IoT technologies is already in place across the world, the company claims.
Tele2’s Head of M2M Global Solutions, Ravi Avidan, stated that IoT is a core focus area for the operator going forward. Tele2 claims to have recently made extensive capability investments in its M2M business. “We see great opportunity in the M2M/IoT space, and we are delighted to be working with Cubic Telecom to bring the benefits of M2M/IoT to their markets and provide solutions for some of the largest brands in the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, CEO of Cubic Telecom, Barry Napier, sees its partnership with Tele2 as a key enabler in its quest for global expansion. “We want to make it as easy as possible for enterprises to run their businesses,” he said. “By expanding our footprint through partnering with Tele2 we not only meet the needs of our expanding customer base by allowing them to grow internationally with proven tools, but we provide them with a clear advantage over their competition.”
While details are thin on how such a partnership will provide customers with a distinct competitive advantage, Cubic Telecom provides a platform for machine to machine communication including Cloud infrastructure, core network, M2M SIM cards and a dedicated network operations centre. Within the connected cars industry, it provides Tesla Motors with global connectivity, machine to machine capabilities, telematics and infotainment services.
Such partnerships in the IoT space add to existing operator agreements, with AT&T supplying Telefónica with the fundamentals of its Digital Home platform. With Tele2 operating across 9 European countries, it can only add further to the growth of IoT enabled industries in the coming months and years.
