BT buys into LatAm

UK incumbent BT announced Friday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Comsat International, a provider of data communication services for corporations and public sector organisations in Latin America.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BT Global Services sells network IT service in 170 different countries, this latest acquisition helped the UK firm increase its footprint significantly from 17 Latin American points of presence to 180, increasing the company’s capabilities in the region ten-fold.

As at the last audited balance sheet on December 31 2005, the gross assets of Comsat International were $145m.

Comsat owns networks in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela and also provides services in Turkey.
