Nordic mobile operator TeliaSonera claimed on Monday to be the first European telco to launch a shared data package, allowing families or other group customers to connect multiple devices to one subscription and share the data bucket.
The subscription offering Telia Mobil Dela (Telia Mobile Share) was launched by Telia in Sweden and is designed to allow customers to connect multiple smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices to one mobile subscription. The fixed monthly fee for the subscription includes a data bucket and unlimited calls, SMS and MMS. Users can then add additional devices at a lower monthly price.
The data bucket can be adjusted up or down from one month to the next depending on expected usage. Telia believes that customers achieve better overview and control of subscription costs, thanks to one invoice for the entire subscription and all connected devices.
The operator said that more than two thirds of all Swedes have a smartphone and one of five uses a tablet. Swedish families therefore have on average more than three mobile subscriptions to manage.
“One subscription for all gadgets, with one invoice. Families have unlimited calls and they can use the data bucket much more efficiently by sharing it among family members’ devices. They can also easily change the bucket size and add more gadgets if they want to”, said Ulrika Steg, head of mobility services Sweden at TeliaSonera.
The Telia Mobil Dela Offering
• Unlimited calls, SMS and MMS included
• Data bucket size from 2GB to 10GB
• Main subscription starts at SEK399 (€47) including 2GB of data
• Connect up to seven devices to the main subscription. Choose from connecting phones from SEK149 and other devices like tablets, routers and modems from SEK29
