Mobile operator Vodafone has teamed up with social network MySpace to launch an interactive music service, Vodafone Music Reporter.
On Monday, Vodafone revealed that it will use the platform to share its existing music initiatives, including summer festivals such as Music Unlimited Cologne in Germany and Vodafone TBAs in the UK.
Music Reporter will also feature user generated content, designed to help create communities for music fans in Germany, Spain and the UK with Italy to follow in the coming days.
Users can share their music experiences, upload and download content including pictures and videos related to Vodafone Music Unlimited events. Members of the community will be able to interact with their fellow users through a blog featuring regular updates on Vodafone Music Unlimited activities.
“We have a tremendous heritage in understanding what our customers want in terms of music and how our music partnerships enhance the customer experience even further,” said David Wheldon, global brand director at Vodafone. “Vodafone Music Reporter” reaches music fans in a way that reflects the latest trends of how music is experienced in the social networking space. It allows music fans to interact, showcase their skills and become a part of a unique Vodafone music community.”
Meanwhile, Spanish carrier Telefonica has struck a deal with digital music distributor IODA, which will allow the Spanish carrier to make IODA’s catalog of independent music available to its users in 24 countries.
Telefonica will make more than 1 million tracks available to consumers as ringtones, mastertones and full tracks, as well as video tones and album art for wallpapers.
“IODA’s partnership with Telefonica reflects both our commitment to mobile as a growing part of our business, as well as our passion for Spanish, Latin and World music. In the last four years, we have built the largest roster of independent Latin music labels available in the industry,” said Kevin Arnold, founder and CEO of IODA.
