Mobile transaction firm mBlox on Thursday highlighted strong growth in the premium SMS and mobile content markets in 2006.

The company said that it processed over 1.4 billion application-to-person transactions worldwide during 2006, worth more than $500m in street revenue.

In the US, the number of premium SMS transactions mBlox processed increased 100 per cent over 2005.

“These numbers demonstrate the huge vitality of the direct-to-consumer market worldwide,” said mBlox executive chairman Andrew Bud. “We look forward to the proliferation of 3G, together with carrier innovations like WAP billing and wholesale data which will open up great new market opportunities.”
