According to reports, Japanese mobile users may soon be able to use the MySpace.com social network service on their mobile phones.

The Nihon Keizai newspaper reported Monday that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and Softbank are planning to launch the internet service through a 50/50 joint venture.

Already versions of MySpace are arriving in European countries. The latest, Tocmag, is a free service that allows mobile users to similar content to MySpace but optimised for mobile phones.

Speaking about the possibilities of a union between News Corp. and Softbank, Murdoch is quoted as saying that when he meets up with Softbank’s CEO Masayoshi Son “putting MySpace on mobile” would definitely be under discussion.

The move would further enlarge MySpace’s already incredible growth. The service is noted by Alexa Internet as being the world’s fourth most popular English-language website with over 125 million users

Murdoch’s News Corp. bought MySpace.com in 2005 for around $580m (£305.7).
