Finnish handset vendor Nokia has come out with a response to the Informer’s claims that Friday’s launch of the 5800 XpressMusic device in the UK was a damp squib.

The Finn issued an announcement claiming that it has shipped 1 million units of the 5800, also known as the ‘Tube’, Nokia’s first mass market touchscreen device.

Since its initial launch in October, the Tube has been introduced in Hong Kong and Moscow and was launched in the UK, where Nokia claims 150 fans queued up in the rain to get their hands on the device.

The Informer must have wondered by just after the hype had died down.

Nevertheless, telecoms.com has got its hands on one of the devices and will be giving it a thorough testing over the next few days.
