Samsung makes really big SIM
November 9, 2006
South Korean kit maker, Samsung Electronics, has beefed up the size of a SIM (subscriber identity module) card to a whopping 1GB.
The S-SIM [Super-SIM?] is designed to better handle the increasing amounts of multimedia features being built into handsets and incorporates system-in-package (SiP) technology to carry high gigabit-density NAND flash memory without growing the area size of the conventional SIM card.
Whilst keeping one eye on security, the SIM also stores more content and data from intensive applications such as multimedia messaging, email, digital photos and video, music files and games.
Samsung said that to ensure compatibility with conventional systems the module supports high speed MultiMediaCard and USB interfaces for data transmission.
