Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia renew OSS pact

The big three networking vendors – Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia – have all extended their commitment to the OSS interoperability initiative.

The OSSii was launched in 2013, with the aim of making their OSS offerings more compatible with each other and thus reducing integration costs and hassle. The three participants signed an inevitable MoU at the time and it seems the time has come to renew it. Agreements like this are in keeping with the modern trend away from proprietary platforms and towards open standards.

“We have seen a strong momentum for OSSii during the last three years in the industry,” said Lin Guixiao, President of SingleOSS Wireless Networks Business Unit at Huawei. “Many third party OSS vendors have signed bi-lateral license agreements with us. I am sure that the renewal and extension of our commitment will further create value for our customers and indeed the whole ecosystem.”

“Extending the OSSii scope demonstrates the strength of Ericsson’s support for multi-vendor interoperability,” Martin Sillen, Head of Network Analytics, Product Line Network Management, Business Unit Cloud & IP at Ericsson. “We are committed to building on the success that the initiative has already achieved to help operators optimize their network operations and meet the demands of the Networked Society.”

“We have expanded our collaboration with the OSSii to new areas so our customers, who run multi-vendor networks, are able to easily introduce IMS services and virtualized functions in multi-vendor OSS environments,” said Bhaskar Gorti, Nokia Applications and Analytics President. “This effort reflects Nokia’s longstanding commitment to openness.”
