Emulating its strategy in France, the latest entrant to Italy’s 5G market undercuts its competitors with a €9.99 per month offer.
Iliad is at it again, this time in Italy. A week after the group’s French business, operating under the “Free Mobile” brand, launched 5G in France, Iliad Italia announced that it is switching on 5G in 27 cities. It would surprise no one that the challenger operator has decided to adopt its tried and tested strategy of undercutting competition in price. The operator has already recruited 6.5 million subscribers since it entered the market in May 2018.
Iliad customers as well as customers from competitors can sign up to the new 5G service with €9.99 per month, the lowest monthly tariff among all four 5G operators in the country. The offer is valid till 21 January, though the operator does not say what the price will be after the offer period.
Called “Flash 70”, the package includes 70GB 4G and 5G combined data, as well as unlimited talking minutes and text messages. This gives subscribers 20GB more data than Iliad’s own Giga 50 deal at €2 extra. But the package is still smaller in size than the 100GB offered by Windtre (of the Three Group) but at a lower price.
Iliad has shared this comparison on its website:

Combining 4G and 5G data offering is understandable. Despite that the service is available in 27 cities, including all the big cities on the map, Iliad’s 5G coverage must still be limited. The operator has a pretty comprehensive coverage checker of its 2G/3G/4G networks, but 5G is yet to be added.
Here is a complete list of the 27 cities where Iliad’s 5G has gone live (in alphabetical order):
Alessandria, Bari, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Como, Ferrara, Florence, Genoa, La Spezia, Latina, Messina, Milan, Modena, Padua, Perugia, Pesaro, Pescara, Piacenza, Prato, Ravenna, Reggio Calabria, Reggio Emilia, Rome , Turin, Verona, Vicenza.
