Networking giant Cisco is seeking to boost its service provider offering through the $31m acquisition of software developer Axioss, which specialises in network management tools.

The acquisition will cover service fulfilment software assets and employees from the UK subsidiary of Axioss, formerly known as Axiom Systems, from Finnish parent company Comptel Corporation.

The move will give Cisco network and service management tools to deploy across its next-generation IP network platforms with a specific focus on the facilitation of video, data, mobility and cloud services.

The Axioss  software suite has already been integrated into Cisco’s managed services suite as part of the Cisco Prime fulfilment platform. The software will provide management capabilities for network services and enable service providers to better manage their networks and network services, the company said.

“As more users, connected mobile internet devices and bandwidth intensive applications drive the explosive growth in IP-based networks, service providers continue to invest in their infrastructure to support customers’ needs,” said Jesper Andersen, senior vice president and general manager, Network Management Technology Group (NMTG), Cisco.  “With the acquisition of Axioss software and talent, we will help enable service providers to generate greater profits using a single management architecture to drive quick monetization and optimisation of their Cisco network investments.”
