Chinese carrier China Unicom has selected Alcatel-Lucent as its lead supplier for the planned expansion of its broadband access network using GPON technology across 29 provinces.

Alcatel-Lucent is to provide its 7360 Intelligence Services Access Manager (ISAM) FX, billed as its highest-capacity fibre access platform.

The deployment will enable China Unicom to offers speeds of up to 100 Mbps over its broadband network, enabling the delivery of a wide range of consumer and business services, including IPTV, video-on-demand and voice-over-IP.
