Canada's MTS picks up Pace

Canadian telco MTS has selected residential broadband gateways from UK firm Pace to deliver new services and increase its footprint and line speed in the province of Manitoba.

The telco has chosen the Pace 5168N Bonded BDSL2/ADSL+ Residential Gateway to deliver Internet speeds of up to 250 Mbps on its fibre-based ‘FiON’ network and up to 50 Mbps on its VDSL2 network.

So far MTS has invested around CAD 125mn (US$ 122mn) in its FiON network, which provides fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in over 20 communities across Manitoba.

MTS had reached 97,232 subscribers for its IPTV services by the end of 2012, up a modest 1.8 per cent from one year earlier, although it did post a 23 per cent increase in subs for its recently-launched ‘Ultimate’ IPTV service, reaching 75,008 customers.
