Indian telco BSNL is preparing to launch IPTV and high-speed broadband services in the state of Goa, having already installed GPON equipment in 13 of its exchanges, with more on the way.

BSNL’s deputy general manager Sujeet Kumar told Times of India (here) that the telco is entering into partnerships with local building construction firms to include fibre optic cables in new-build homes in locations including Dona Paula, Panaji and Socorro.

BSNL had previously expected to launch IPTV services in Goa in October 2010, but saw its franchisee back out at the last moment, causing the service to be shelved.

Now however, final arrangements are being made for a new franchisee to operate the service in Goa, according to Mr. Kumar, who added that the IPTV service will cost about INR 100 (US$ 1.80) to INR 300 per month.

The company has however encountered difficulties laying fibre cables into individual homes and apartment buildings, with Mr. Kumar stating that some residents are not keen for visible cables to be installed in their building.
