Infrastructure vendor Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has teamed up with China Mobile’s Research Institute (CMRI) to further their cooperation on research and standardisation of LTE and 5G mobile broadband technologies.
The two have expanded on their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which they originally signed in 2010, and said that the changes reflect their vision for 2020 and outline key focus areas for future mobile networks.
NSN said in a statement that it is joining forces with CMRI to develop innovative technologies to account for devices becoming more sophisticated, new applications evolving and more data being required at higher speeds.
As such the two have agreed to enhance joint research, standardisation, and prototype development activities on 5G technologies, LTE deployment optimisation, cloud-based radio access network (C-RAN), the “Nanocell” concept for next-generation small cell deployments, coexistence of 2G and 4G technologies and core virtualisation.
“Significant reduction of the unit cost of bandwidth is the key to success of future mobile networks,” said Bill Huang, general manager of CMRI. “The alignment of NSN’s and CMRI’s technology vision on the future mobile networks is an important foundation for our long-term successful partnership.”
Markus Borchert, president of NSN Greater China, said that the vendor has a long term commitment to China and teamed with CMRI based on its innovation in TD-LTE, cloud-based RAN, IPv6 and packet networks.
“Since the outset, NSN and CMRI have consistently expanded and reinforced their collaboration to focus on leading research activities and to drive innovation and development of 4G technology and beyond,” he said.
The LTE North America conference is taking place on the 21st-22nd November 2013, in Dallas, Texas, USA. Click here NOW to download a brochure for the event.
