P&TLuxembourg to launch fibre broadband in the Grand Duchy

P&TLuxembourg, the main operator of Luxembourg, has confirmed that it plans to launch its fibre-based broadband network in September.

The broadband services will be marketed under the brand name ‘LuxFibre’ and will deliver speeds of up to 100Mbps, with 85 per cent of households nationwide eligible for speeds of up to 30 Mbps at launch, and 25 per cent expected to be eligible for speeds of up to 100Mbps.

The €500mn project is thought to involve a combination of VDSL and Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP), and will help ensure that all homes in the country have access to internet speeds of up to 100Mbps by 2015.

The project is also expected to enable a number of other applications, including multimedia and e-business applications such as video conferencing and e-health, and will also enable an increased number of HD channels to be made available on the company’s IPTV service.
