Spanish triple play services provider Jazztel said Tuesday that its national high speed broadband fibre to the home (FTTH) network has begun commercial operation.
The fixed-line voice, data and internet and mobile services provider teamed up with Chinese kit vendor ZTE to build the broadband network out within two years to cover three million home and corporate users in Spain.
Jazztel said it has seen its users and revenue grow at an annual rate of 20 per cent in the past three years, prompting the firm to build its own FTTH network to satisfy fixed broadband demand.
ZTE provided Jazztel an integrated full-service optical access platform, the ZXA10 C300, to make the FTTH network future-proof and scalable. The platform allows for evolution to next generation passive optical networks (NG PON) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) PON technology, ZTE said.
The company claims its 16-port gigabit passive optical network (GPON) boards are the highest port density in the industry, saving equipment room resources, cutting power consumption, reducing total cost of ownership, and improving profitability.
