Vodafone targets SMEs with business broadband rollout

Vodafone has unveiled a raft of offerings for small businesses across the UK as it moves further into the SME sector.

The offerings revolve around the delivery of high speed fibre broadband and telephony mobility services to millions of UK small businesses, Vodafone claims. It says its principal proposition is enabling next generation connectivity for small businesses by providing speeds of up to 76 Mbps and several fixed broadband innovations.

According to Vodafone, beamforming technology is at the core of its next generation wireless router. Beamforming is capable of directing wireless signals to specific devices, resulting in greater spectral efficiency in the >5 GHz band. Vodafone says this feature allows business owners to prioritise signal to a chosen devices for faster download speeds and enhanced control thanks to a companion mobile app.

Along with residential broadband, IP telephony services Vodafone is offering auto-divert landline calls to mobile – with the telco chucking in an additional mobile device with 4 Gb monthly data on top.

“The arrival of Vodafone broadband for small businesses is exciting news for the UK,” says Vodafone UK Enterprise Director Phil Mottram. “Superfast, reliable, secure broadband is absolutely essential to keep the country’s businesses in business. We’ve invested heavily in our own dedicated network of enterprise quality, fibre optic broadband and can now offer a broadband and landline phone package that’s feature rich with the benefit of enhanced service levels.”

Meanwhile, there has been some shuffling going on in the Vodafone board room following the joint venture with Liberty Global in the Netherlands. UK Chief Executive Jeroen Hoencamp has been nominated to lead the JV in Holland and has been appointed as Chief Executive of Vodafone Netherlands. Filling Hoencamp’s vacancy in the UK will be Nick Jeffery, currently the Vodafone Group Enterprise Chief Executive.
