Netherlands-based operator KPN on Wednesday created a group CTO role and appointed the head technology officer at the flagship domestic operation to the role.

Erik Hoving previously headed KPN’s Strategy, Innovation & Technology Office and before that he was CTO of KPN Mobile International. As of today he is appointed to group CTO.

Eelco Blok, CEO of KPN, said: “By creating a Group CTO function I want to highlight the importance of technology and innovation for KPN. Based on his proven leadership skills, I am looking forward to Erik advising the Board of Management in making the long term technology choices that drive the strategic innovation opportunities at KPN.”

In the near future however, it looks like Hoving’s remit could be on unit fewer. On Tuesday America Movil gave its approval to the takeover of KPN’s German unit E-Plus after Telefónica Deutschland sweetened its original deal.

Mexico City-based América Móvil said Monday it would support the sale of E-Plus at the improved terms and Telefonica confirmed that America Movil has irrevocably committed to vote in favour of the transaction at the Extraordinary Shareholder Meeting of KPN.
