Singaporean mobile operator M1 on Tuesday announced its new CEO as Karen Kooi Lee Wah, effective April 22.

Kooi, who presently holds the position of chief financial officer, replaces Neil Montefiore, who stood down from his position after 13 years at the end of January this year.

Kooi joined M1 as CFO in 1995 and has been acting CEO since February 2009.

Telecoms.com recently interviewed M1’s former CEO, Neil Montefiore. He plans to work as an independent consultant for 12 months, before beginning a new role – as yet unspecified – in 2010.
