Alcatel-Lucent to deliver GPON to Finland

Regional Finnish service provider, SSP Yhtiöt, part of the Finnet group, has tapped Alcatel-Lucent to bring one of the first Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) deployments to the country.

Under a three year frame agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy GPON technology to help support the Finnish government’s national broadband initiative of 100Mbps broadband for everyone by 2015.

The Finnet Group comprises 28 small and mid-sized telecom service providers all across Finland.
