Scandinavian equipment manufacturer, Ericsson, has won a contract with the Russian mobile operator CJSC Yeniseytelecom (YTC) to deliver a trunk radio network as part of its ongoing modernisation of its transport network.

In a statement Tuesday, Ericsson said it will implement the latest generation of its compact long-haul microwave system, Marconi LH, and offer Yeniseytelecom professional services such as installation, supervision and training for technical personnel. No financial details were given.

The implementation of the new microwave equipment, divided into phases, is scheduled for launch during 2007.

CJSC Yeniseytelecom is the leading cellular operator in the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia with more than 1.2 million subscribers.

Cooperation between Ericsson and Yeniseytelecom dates back to 1998, when Ericsson made its first deliveries for construction of an NMT network. In May 2006, Ericsson and Yeniseytelecom signed the first contract for delivery of transport-network equipment for Krasnoyarsk.
