Motorola gets Good

Motorola on Friday announced that it has agreed to acquire mobile email company Good Technology for an undisclosed sum.
The US vendor, which already uses Good’s mobile messaging software on its BlackBerry styled Q device, said the acquisition would be used to increase the company’s enterprise client base. Good, which focuses solely on the corporate sector, claims to have around 12,000 software and service customers in the enterprise space.
When speaking to telecoms.com recently, a spokesman for Good said the company is targeting the higher end Symbian, Windows and Palm devices which are typically found in this market. “We’re device neutral, carrier neutral and software neutral. For business users, we need to allow them to use the device of their choice,” the spokesman said. “By remaining device neutral Good can offer a range of the latest smartphones running on Palm, Windows Mobile or Symbian”.
On Friday, Motorola said it will maintain a multi-device strategy for mobile email going forward.
“The addition of Good Technology will advance Motorola’s vision of seamless mobility,” said Ron Garriques, president of Motorola’s Mobile Devices business. “Good Technology’s software and managed service deliver a rich user experience, low cost of ownership, industry-leading security and enterprise-class support”.
