European operator group Telenor has deployed Alcatel-Lucent’s Motive Network Analyser to continuously monitor fixed line broadband connections in Norway as part of a plans to modernise fixed access.
According to the vendor, Telenor will acquire improved troubleshooting capabilities when issues arise in the network and optimise each connection to the operator’s 500,000 broadband subscribers.
The operator’s network modernisation plans also see it deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s VDSL2 technology to upgrade its existing copper infrastructure to provide subscribers with higher DSL data speeds in order to better deliver services such as video streaming and online gaming. The deployment of VDSL2 is already underway and the operator plans to have its 500,000 subscribers migrated to the platform by 2015.
“Ensuring a better overall experience for residential customers is an important strategic initiative for Telenor and the Motive Network Analyzer tackles possible network issues at various levels — both reactively and proactively,” said Terje Foyn Johannessen, director of telephony and internet for Telenor Norway.
He added that the deployment of the Motive Network Analyzer and VDSL2 technology supports Telenor’s aims to provide stable high speed broadband services to its DSL subscribers.
Alcatel-Lucent noted that the deal forms part of its Shift Plan; the vendor’s strategy to reposition itself as a IP networking and ultra broadband access specialist.
Luis Martinez Amago, EMEA president at Alcatel-Lucent, said: “Service providers around the world are looking to get ever-greater capacity out of their existing physical access networks, especially copper. In many cases, this means relying on lines that were not originally designed for the delivery of high-speed broadband connections. By deploying the Motive Network Analyzer, Telenor will be able to provide faster, more reliable connections for broadband subscribers.”
