Jasper integrates Cisco goodness in latest Control Center update

Over a year after Cisco completed its acquisition of IoT specialist Jasper, we’re seeing some integration of Cisco technology into the Jasper platform.

Jasper’s core product is Control Center – a platform and dashboard designed to enable control of the whole IoT stack, from devices to the cloud. Cisco has just announced Control Center 7.0, which is the first version to integrate Cisco technologies such as:

“When we acquired Jasper, we made a promise to the industry that Cisco and Jasper would be more than the sum of our separate parts – that we would create something better together,” said Rowan Trollope, SVP and GM of IoT and Applications at Cisco. “This is the realization of that promise. And what we’ve built in the past year has surpassed even our lofty expectations.”

Apart from all the added Cisconess the other stuff highlighted in Control Center 7.0 at the Cisco Live! event focused on the introduction of a greater degree of flexibility that claims to allow more bespoke IoT implementations and a suite of new ‘premium’ services, which include ‘Threat Protection & Smart Security’ and ‘Traffic Segmentation’.

“What we’ve learned from enabling IoT success for our 11K customers is that companies have different needs at different stages of their IoT journey,” said Jahangir Mohammed, GM of IoT at Cisco. “So today we’re introducing the biggest evolution of our Control Center IoT platform ever, providing a flexible model and new Premium Services that help meet the needs of customers at any phase.”

Jasper changed its focus from LPWAN technology solutions to a more general enabling platform before the Cisco acquisition. This release seems designed to emphasize those credentials as well as demonstrate why the acquisition was such a great idea in the first place. We’re still early in the evolution of IoT so it seems to be sensible to introduce as much flexibility as possible to such a platform.
