Apparently Google is trying to break the record for the most number of frivolous IoT gadgets. Yesterday we had a connected denim jacket, and today we have 87 LG kitchen appliances.
Making the announcement in Seoul, LG proudly proclaimed 87 of its produced would now be wifi enabled, as well as compatible with the Google Assistant on Google Home, eligible Android phones and iOS smartphones. It’s an IoTgasm with washing machines and dryers, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, vacuums, air purifiers and more.
We’re not too sure what to say about this. For all the wonderful use cases floating around for IoT, connecting the kitchen is possibly one of the more frivolous, and more demonstrative of how lazy we are getting as a race. If our ancestors, the ones who slugged away in the fields and hand grinded flour for bread could see us now they would be horrified.
So we tried to think of a couple of ways a Google Assistant in the kitchen might be useful:
We’ve changed our mind, if Google comes up with an assistant with a bit of sass, we’re all in.
