Chinese telco giant Huawei has given one of its most senior sales execs overall responsibility over the Western Europe region. Before being made Western Europe President, Vincent Pang had previously been President of global sales and before that VP of Western Europe. Pang’s predecessor, Kevin Tao, is moving back to Huawei’s global HQ in China.
“After working in Western Europe for many years, Vincent Pang has accumulated extensive experience in this market,” said Eric Xu, Huawei’s Deputy Chairman and Rotating CEO. “I have every confidence that, after taking office, he will lead the team to continue creating more value for customers with our local partners.”
“As we stand together at the threshold of a new digital age, our next steps will be decisive in shaping our common, connected future. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to lead Huawei’s strategic effort in Western Europe at such a crucial time,” said Pang. “As a global innovator, a valuable partner, and a responsible corporate citizen, Huawei is ideally placed to drive sustainable ICT growth and innovation in Western Europe. I look forward to working with Western European partners to make this happen, building on the successful work carried out so far.”
Huawei currently employs around 6,300 people in its Western European operations, which started in 2000. Huawei claims to serve all the leading operators in the region as well as working with over 700 channel partners. This is arguably its most competitive region, with Ericsson in the process of diversification and the Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent merger likely to yield a strong third networking player.
