Apple’s much anticipated wearable debut is edging ever closer and the hype surrounding the launch of the Apple Watch ramped up another notch today. The watch, Apple’s “most personal device yet” according to CEO Tim Cook, is now available for pre-order globally.
Apple-philes around the world are also now able to get up close and personal with the device, with Apple stores stocking preview editions of the watch ahead of its launch on the 24th April. Apple has also dedicated squadrons of “Specialists” to deliver personalised test sessions for consumers looking to get intimate with the wearable in the forthcoming fortnight.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Apple is urging customers to book a dedicated appointment via the website before rocking up to inevitably over-populated flagship stores. Equally, encouraging customers to book online ahead of time could be construed as a marketing tactic to generate more prestige and hype ahead of time.
A statement from Apple reckons the watch is an “incredibly accurate timepiece, an intimate and immediate communication device and a ground-breaking health and fitness companion”.
The pre-launch announcement and pre-order event has taken place in Apple stores across the world, including Paris, Tokyo and London; with various global resellers also invited to take part in demonstrations.
“We are excited to welcome customers tomorrow and introduce them to Apple Watch, our most personal device yet,” said Angela Ahrendts, SVP of retail and online stores at Apple. “Based on the tremendous interest from people visiting our stores, as well as the number of customers who have gone to the Apple Online Store to mark their favourite Apple Watch ahead of availability, we expect that strong customer demand will exceed our supply at launch.”
