T-Mobile USA unleashes 3G modem

Now that T-Mobile USA has finally got reasonable coverage on its 3G network, the company is ready to push usage with the launch of its first 3G modem.

This week, the US carrier introduced the T-Mobile webConnect USB Laptop Stick, which offers both wifi and 3G UMTS/EDGE connectivity.

The USB stick, manufactured by Chinese vendor Huawei, also works as a storage device, offering 8GB of memory.

T-Mobile USA said it is continuing to expand its 3G network, with high speed data services available in more than 130 US cities as of the end of 2008. In 2009, the company plans to double the population currently covered by its high-speed network to reach more than 200 million people, expanding to an additional 100 cities by the end of the year.

So far the only device T-Mo USA is really using to push 3G usage is the G1 with Android device.
