The Dow Jones newswire is reporting that Telecom Italia is planning to sell its Brazillian mobile arm as soon as possible.

Speculation has been building about the future of the unit since last week when rumours of a reorganisation first surfaced.

On Monday the company split its fixed-line and mobile units in Italy to focus on delivering media content over broadband in Italy and across Europe. In a deal with Rupert Murdoch’s Fox outfit, the company intends to test the water with media delivery over high speed connections.

More details as this story unfolds.
