Internet company Yahoo has confirmed the acquisition of mobile analytics specialist Flurry as it seeks to reinforce its commitment to “building and supporting useful, inspiring and beautiful mobile applications and monetisation solutions.”
Flurry, founded in 2008, has been delivering insights and analytics to mobile app developers and now claims over 170,000 users, collecting activity from 1.4 billion devices monthly and 5.5 billion app sessions per day. The company claims also 8,000 publishers monetise their content with Flurry.
“By joining Yahoo, Flurry will have resources to speed up the delivery of platforms that can help developers build better apps, reach the right users, and explore new revenue opportunities. Together, we will make Yahoo mobile experiences better through products that are more personalized and more inspiring,” Yahoo said.
“We are reinvesting in developers and continuing to build great analytics products. Our combined scale will accelerate revenue growth for thousands of developers and publishers across the mobile ecosystem.”
Yahoo said that its mobile display and search revenue each grew more than 100 per cent year-over-year and more than half of its total monthly audience visits come from a mobile device. In Q2, over 450 million mobile monthly active users came to Yahoo, a 36 per cent increase year-over-year.
Yahoo has been on an acquisition spree over the past year or so, snapping up micro video player Qwiki, blogging platform Tumblr, UK startup Summly and Flickr. Many view the acquisitions as a last ditch attempt by the company to stay relevant.
