EMC gives hybrid cloud offerings an upgrade

EMC has announced two updates to its Enterprise Hybrid Cloud and Native Hybrid Cloud solutions playing on the digital transformation buzz currently transfixing the technology community.

Focusing on the idea of digital transformation, the new offerings are focused on those organizations implementing cloud-native applications and a DevOps strategy. Both the offerings will enter into general availability from September, with the team planning further updates later in the year.

“EMC’s Enterprise Hybrid Cloud and Native Hybrid Cloud are the fastest, surest path to the cloud based on the unrivalled level of collaboration between EMC and VMware,” said Peter Cutts, VP of Solutions at EMC. “They enable our customers to shift their focus from building infrastructure to delivering innovative new services that differentiate their business.

“Today’s announcements emphasize our commitment to developing hybrid cloud platforms that ignite out customers’ IT transformations and simplify and accelerate their path to becoming digital-driven businesses.”

Enterprise Hybrid Cloud v4.0 is designed to help customers advance their journey for both traditional and cloud-native applications. The offering automates the delivery of infrastructure services to improve predictability, reliability, and efficiency of those services. The update extends Enterprise Hybrid Cloud from dual-site to up to four data centre sites with up to four instances of vCenter, as well offering enhanced data protection and the ability to add or remove encryption for VMs via the self-service catalog at any time.

The new Native Hybrid Cloud solution is based on the VCE VxRail 200 and 200F models, and offers turnkey Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform. The team states the offering is designed to start small and scale out as demand for new applications grow. Aside from the usual buzzword benefits, the offering does include a centralized infrastructure resource management, provisioning and performance evaluation from the vCenter Server Console.

“Enterprise Hybrid Cloud and Native Hybrid Cloud are built on a foundation of proven VMware technologies,” said Loretta Brown, VP at VMware. “With the vRealize Cloud Management platform, Enterprise Hybrid Cloud delivers customers the cloud consumption experience and agility they need to make their transformational cloud journey. These platforms accelerate IT’s ability to deliver a software-defined environment that is ready to support the needs of both traditional and cloud-native applications.”
