Czech Republic trunking operator MobilKom said Monday it has tapped Chinese vendor ZTE to deliver a cdma2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network.

Deployed through 2007, the Rev. A network may well be the first of its kind in Europe, which traditionally uses GSM technologies.

Rival player, Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, is also planning to deploy Rev. A over its EV-DO network after testing the technology in December.

MobilKom’s network will focus mainly on mobile data and PTT (push to talk) services, the company said.

“The Czech Republic is facing a rapidly growing demand for access to high-speed internet services. As always, it is the outlay and legacy system integration issues which delay the roll-out of these services,” said Guo Jun, the president of ZTE Central and Eastern European region.
