UK mobile payments outfit Bango has announced it’s working with Amazon and Telefónica Deutschland for carrier billing services on its O2 network in Germany. Starting next year O2 Germany subscribers will be able to pay for certain goods bought on Amazon with their phone bills.
This development comes just a month after Bango announced it was powering carrier billing for Deutsche Telekom across a range of app and content stores., implying the German market is especially receptive to carrier billing as a mobile commerce facilitator.
In other news Telefónica and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed an agreement to collaborate on a number of ‘common interest’ initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean. The deal includes a new framework to replace the current UN Millennium Development Goals initiative, due to end next year, skills development, employment and entrepreneurial support for young people, and social innovation initiatives.
The two parties will be working together on projects ranging from technology to social interest, including big data research and management, events featuring UNDP experts and activities organised by Telefónica, knowledge sharing and participation in associations and institutions, and social awareness campaigns.
Lastly, on a busy day for Telefónica, it has just been announced that the operator has chosen Huawei’s OSS solution to help manage its Latin America operations.
“Telefónica OSS simplification strategy is based on the standardization, simplification and automation of the processes and technologies across our footprint,” said Juan Manuel Caro Bernat, Operations & OSS Director at Telefónica. “We are selecting the best partners in the market to help us in this journey. Huawei Performance Management solution really meets our demands through its leading-edge capabilities. Huawei is our strategic and reliable partner, and I believe that our cooperation with Huawei will continue to be fruitful and profitable in the future.”
