TeliaSonera business head loses role over Uzbekistan scandal

Swedish operator group TeliaSonera’s president of business area mobility services Tero Kivisaari has agreed to leave his role due to his involvement in a corruption scandal affecting the carrier’s operations in Uzbekistan. Sverker Hannervall has been appointed acting president of business area mobility services, although Kivisaari will not exit the company, instead taking on other duties in the group.

TeliaSonera CEO to invest personal fortune into MegaFon

Lars Nyberg, the president and CEO at Swedish operator group TeliaSonera, has announced that he will be investing $2m of his own money in the initial public offering of shares in Russian operator MegaFon. Nyberg, who is a member of the board of directors of MegaFon, will purchase the shares at the offer price.

TeliaSonera reports growth in Q1 profit

TeliaSonera, which became the world’s first commercial LTE operator at the end of 2009, has reported a six per cent increase year on year for first quarter profit. The firm recorded net income for January to March of SEK4.72bn (€489m), compared to SEK4.44bn for the first quarter of 2009.
