América Móvil-owned operator Claro Chile has launched the country’s first commercial LTE services. The launch follows trials launched in November 2012. The operator conducted the first LTE session on its network in March this year.

“Our customers can now look forward to super-fast mobile broadband that will offer them a significantly superior service experience,” said Gerardo Muñoz, chief executive officer at Claro Chile.

Claro is currently Chile’s number three operator with 6.3 million subscribers as of March 2013, according to Informa’s WCIS. It trails Telefónica Móviles Chile, which has 10.2 million subscribers and Entel PCS with 10.1 million subscribers, according to the service.

The operator’s LTE access network and evolved packet core were supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks.
