Apple’s latest two iPhone models, unveiled Tuesday, will support 13 LTE bands, making the device accessible worldwide and boosting its presence in Asia with new deals in Japan and China.
The iPhone 5s uses an ARM based A7 chip with a 64-bit processor and runs on iOS 7, which Apple claims is the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone.
It has a four inch retina display and is available in three metallic finishes including gold, silver and “space grey”. The device supports up to 13 LTE wireless bands, according to Apple, which claims that this is more than any other smartphone available today. The handset has an eight megapixel camera.
The device supports download speeds of up to 100Mbps, and includes dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support. The iPhone 5s also has an M7 motion coprocessor that gathers data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass to offload work from the A7 for improved power efficiency.
The M7 motion coprocessor continuously measures the user’s motion data, even when the device is asleep, and saves battery life for pedometer or other fitness apps that use the accelerometer.
iPhone 5s also includes fingerprint scanner technology in the Touch ID, which is built into the home button, Touch ID uses a laser cut sapphire crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, to take a high-resolution image of your fingerprint and intelligently analyze it to provide accurate readings from any angle. All fingerprint information is encrypted and stored securely in the Secure Enclave inside the A7 chip on the iPhone 5s.
The LTE North America conference is taking place on the 21st-22nd November 2013, in Dallas, Texas, USA. Click here NOW to download a brochure for the event.
It will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model.

iOS 7 also includes new features such as Control Center, Notification Center, improved Multitasking, ad-hoc wifi service AirDrop, enhanced Photos, Safari, Siri and iTunes Radio.
The new security measures Apple is adding into iOS7 and the iPhone 5s will make the iPhone an even better platform for monetization, according to Ian Fogg, director of mobile and telecoms and head of mobile at research firm IHS.
“The fingerprint sensor on the new 5S helps Apple extend its makes the iPhone a safer device for users to trust with financial details ecosystem into retail as well as helping users safely buy App Store apps.”
He added that the iPhone 5c and Apple’s new operator deal in Japan with market leader NTT Docomo increases the addressable market for the iPhone.
“The iPhone 5c’s improved LTE band support will also make it more attractive to European operators than the older iPhone 5 which only supported one European LTE band: 1800Mhz.”
Tony Cripps, principal device analyst at Ovum, added that anyone who had been expecting Apple to come truly down market with the iPhone 5C was fooling themselves.
“The day that happens is the day the company signals that it has run out of headroom for expansion. It’s far from ready to concede that yet as its greater interest in Japan and China show.”
