Sprint lights up LTE in 11 more cities

Sprint, the third largest operator in the US, has activated LTE in 11 more cities taking the number of markets in which it offers LTE to 43.

However, LTE coverage is still lagging behind that of its major national rivals. AT&T currently offers LTE in 103 markets and recently announced that it will be adding LTE to another 44 markets by the end of the year with an aim to completing  coverage by the end of 2014. At the recent LTE North America conference Verizon’s CTO John Saw said that the carrier would complete its LTE coverage layer by the middle of 2013.

Most of Sprint’s markets are located in mid-America and the East coast, which means that customers in west coast markets such as San Francisco are limited to 3G speeds.  However, in a statement Sprint announced its intention to support 100 markets in the, “coming months” and the city is listed as a location where an LTE network build is taking place, along with other major centres such as New York and Washington.
