Cloud computing fundamentally changed the way data centers deploy applications, control users and deliver resources. Driven by new virtualization technologies, low-cost white boxes and the development of automated operations, today’s data centers allow organizations to be more agile and cost-effective. In contrast, the network architecture of service providers has remained almost in the same state for the last 30 years, with costly proprietary components, multi-layer architecture and dedicated systems per network service. While NFV strived to bring some of the efficiencies in data centers to networking, it has not gone beyond a few services and low-throughput access solutions.
By adopting the architectural concepts of large clouds, operating systems designed to run on merchant silicon provide communications service providers with the ability to significantly transform their networks to embrace web-scale networking. Now CSPs can build high-scale converged infrastructures that will support any service on any port, with cloud-native software and microservices. A disaggregated approach can scale higher than any incumbent model, at a much lower TCO.
Join this webinar and learn how the new disaggregation model compares to the existing approaches.
