Wimax Comes To Texas
Wes-Tex Telecommunications, a division of Wes-Tex Telephone Cooperative, has selected Airspan to roll out a citywide WiMAX deployment in Big Spring, Texas. Airspan is to work with systems integrator Stutler Technologies on the project.
Wes-Tex, a rural local exchange carrier, has previously served customers through traditional leased wired lines. Due to rising costs, the company is looking to WiMAX to better serve its customer base.
Using Airspan’s HiperMAX base station equipment in the 3.65GHz band, the network has full city coverage with multiple base stations communicating with hundreds of outdoor units placed at the customer premises. This mobile WiMAX compliant platform was selected to allow for future mobile applications if desired. Airspan’s WiMAX technology offers next-generation frequency efficiency software, quality of service (QoS) and network management.
“Airspan and Stutler were able to devise a solution that allows us not only to continue serving our current customers with voice, but also to expand our customer base with added services such as high-speed Internet,” said Wes-Tex general manager, JR Wilson. “We were also able to plan, develop and deploy the network very quickly and at a low cost.”
Declan Byrne, Airspan CMO, added, “We are very pleased to add Wes-Tex to our long list of rural US customers. This network further expands our leadership position in the US and, more specifically, in the 3.65GHz frequency band. Our partnership with Stutler Technologies continues to thrive as we work together to supply broadband across the US.”
