Sony to bring STB to Europe, US

Japanese electronics giant Sony Computer Entertainment on Tuesday unveiled a set top box destined for the US and European markets that will allow users to stream content, including PlayStation game titles, straight to their TV. The PlayStation TV unit, available in the autumn, will cost $99.

The product was released in Japan and other Asian regions as PlayStationVita TV in November last year, adopting the same chipsets and system software as the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) portable entertainment system.

The system supports remote play and the PlayStation wireless controllers, allowing PS4 users in one room to continue playing a game on a PS TV system in another room. Users will also be able to access the PlayStation Now open beta service that will be available by the end of this year in North America and at a later date in Europe, delivering PS3 game content via internet streaming.

At launch a lineup of over 1,000 software titles from select PS Vita, PSP, and PS One libraries will be available for download.

The Broadband World Forum is taking place on the 21st – 23rd October 2014 at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, Amsterdam. Click here to download a brochure for the event.
